Wow what a day!! We left this morning at 6:00 a.m. And within
several miles we began the “Cabbage Hill” climb. We road 55 mile today and my legs feel like
shredded cabbage; actually my whole body does.
The views we had today were spectacular. For some reason I only noticed the spectacular
views on the way do the hill. Michael
and I figure we climbed between 4500 to 5000 feet today.
We were on Emigrant Highway most of the day today. In a three hour stretch we only saw three
cars. We saw that many bikers as
well. For the most part we were on the road
by ourselves. That did make the ride
more enjoyable.
We stopped in a small town called Meacham for lunch. The town has less than 100 people living
in it. We had great conversation with
the locals. They told us they had over
ten feet of snow this past winter. The
food they served us was fantastic. They
also filled our water bottle with ice water.
It took a lot of water today with the temperatures in the eighties.
After climbing to over four thousand feet, we ended the day
with about 15 miles of down hill, which is great, however you know you will
need to climb again in the morning. Outside
our motel we can see snow covered mountains. We will be climbing tomorrow!!! The last ten miles we needed to ride on
Interstate 84 and I had another flat tire.
Sort of demoralizing at the end of a tough day
Over all, I think we are doing well. Both Michael and I should sleep well
tonight. We will be in Baker City
tomorrow evening. Tomorrow will be the
last day in the Pacific time zone. We
are making progress. By Monday evening we should be in Idaho.
Good to be alive!!
Sounds like it's time for Gatorskins! Have a great day!
