Lander was a great town to stay in.  It had restaurants and an active downtown area.  Most of the towns that we end up staying in have less than 1000 people in the whole town.

After eating a good breakfast in a nearby restaurant, we left our motel at about 7:30.  It was cold this morning with an overcast sky.  We did not see the sun very much today.   The wind was almost nonexistent when we started.  Traffic was very light.

It did not take long and we began to climb.  It seemed like we spent a lot of the day climbing.  One hill we climbed was over 10 miles long.  We had several 2 and 3 mile climbs.   Several times we stopped just to see where we came from.  You could see for 50 to 60 miles.  The sights were amazing.

At one point Jeremy said, “we are absolutely in the middle of nowhere.”  That seems to have been the case over the last 1200 miles.  We are so remote we have no cell phone reception.  The town we are staying in, Jeffrey City, is a ghost town.  The motel we are staying in is a dive.  That is the kind way to describe it.  I can almost assure you, 95 percent of the people I know would not stay in it.  The only reason we are here is because the next town is 66 miles away.  There is one dingy bar that offers the only food in the town.  I am committed to keeping Jeremy away from the bar this evening.

The wind was not our friend today.  In fact, for most of the day it worked against us.  On several occasions, we got a reprieve from the wind as we stopped along side the road to watch the pronghorn that were in the fields nearby.  Wild life is plentiful in these parts.

As I sit in this dive of a motel, in the middle on nowhere, my thoughts go out to my granddaughter Kennedy, who is having her birthday party today. The family is at Adam and Kim’s home swimming in the pool.  This is the one part that stinks about taking on adventures like this; you miss out on important things.  I was able to FaceTime Kennedy, which was great.

Three more days and I will see Sheryl and my mom who are flying to Denver, to spend a few days at my brother Herm’s house.  That will be a glorious day!!

In the middle of nowhere, yet it is still good to be alive!

  1. Gotta love that area of the country - Internet/Cell phone coverage is NOT universal! (But God's beauty is!) Blessings as you continue to see God in new ways!
