Today was a great recovery day; I think. We woke fairly early and Sheryl made breakfast for Cindy, Dillon, Jeremy and myself. After breakfast Jeremy and I climbed the hill behind our property to sit on the rock and take in the scenery. That really was a spiritual moment for both of us. We also had a spiritual moment in the two hour decent. Typically the decent takes 20 minutes, but to be clear, we were not lost!



Sheryl took mom to the property to see the finished tree house and the finished shed. Mom who is nearly 84, wishes she could sleep in the tree house. Who knows, knowing mom it might happen.

Since Jeremy is only here for today, we decided to hike to Lost Lake. That proved to be a good hike for Jeremy, Sheryl and I. The scenery was fantastic. The streams were running full and with great force. Lost Lake is a serene place, surrounded by mountains. The lake is at 9000 feet of elevation.



One of the things that Jeremy wanted to do was to visit his mothers cousin and her husband, Judy Beechy and Gordon Dyck, in Estes Park. Gordon is suffering from ALS. The trip to Estes Park was worth it in many ways. It was nice to see Jeremy caring for family and to hear stories of how Gordon taught him to play cards when he was young. Again the scenery was amazing. Long Mountain, which is a peak of over 14000 feet, was always in sight as we worked our way to Estes Park.

Tonight we are at Herm and Cindy’s home for pizza, trail bologna, Guggisburg cheese, and watermelon. Sounds like an interesting combination. Yet these are all things that I have been craving for a long time. Eating nutrition/protein bars and eating in restaurants is getting old.   

Tomorrow morning Sheryl and I will take Jeremy to Denver airport for a mid morning flight. Who knows what the rest of the day will hold.

Yesterday was one of the most difficult days I have experienced so far.  I left the motel a little after 5:15 a.m.  Sheryl had called the night before and said she and her sister Dorothy, would be flying out to spend a few days with me.  I had 95 miles to cover in order to stay on track.  I love riding during the morning hours.  Most towns are dead and you don't see any vehicles for miles.  Yesterday morning was no different.   I soon realized that I would be facing a pretty stiff wind from the east.  By 8:00 a.m. The wind was in my face at 20 miles an hour.  At about 40 miles into the ride, which was 10:00 a.m., I stopped in the town of Great Bend, Kansas.  All morning long, the skies were ominous to the north.  When I stopped the attendant ask where I was riding to, and I told him to Lyons, and then to South Hutchison. June 9, 2017 Today was almost a like two different days. Titus and Deb Dutcher arrived at the motel this morning at 6:45 a.m., and we left a little after 7:00.  As we drove out of Mountain Home you could see the mountains in front of us.  To be truthful they looked pretty intimidating. Soon after we passed interstate 84 we began an 8-mile climb.  When we got to the top my legs were pounding.  I said something to Titus, who is a physician, that I am concerned about my legs.  He asked about my liquid intake, and he thought that was great.  Then we talked about food intake, and he soon said you have a food deficiency.  If I eat what he wants me to eat, I will look like a walrus by the end of this ride. At about the 24-mile point, we found a café out in the middle of nowhere.  We road to the front door, which was open, and the proprietor told us they did not open for an hour.  That café was the only spot for food and water for the entire day.  He invited us in to

May 29, 2017 I left Troutdale this morning under the cover of fog.   That was sort of disappointing since I knew I would miss out on some of the most scenic views on the entire trip.   As I climbed I realized that I was getting pretty wet.   By the time I go to the top I was wet and cold.   Adam and Jarrod had purchased and amazing rain coat for me, which saved my day.   As soon as I put it on I started warming up.   The Oregon Historic Highway is a narrow two lane road with switchbacks every several hundred feet.   As I coasted down the other side I soon ran into some amazing waterfalls.   Maltnomah Falls in amazing. Most of the day was spent on OHH, bike trails and frontage roads. I did need to ride on interstate 84.   It is interesting riding on the interstate with cars and trucks flying by you only eight feet away.   I arrived at Hood Rover just in time this afternoon.   It was nearly 80 degrees and the wind was picking up.   Late this afternoon the winds were gusting
